Question: Should i be worried?

about a month ago as part of a physical they did a normal urinalysis. they didn't tell me that anything was wrong, but now they want to do another one. i'm kind of worried since they're mainly used to detect diabetes or kidney problems! i'm even more worried becasuse i do have almost every early symptom of type 1 diabetes--i need to urinate nearly every hour, i'm excessively thirsty and sweaty, i'm fatigued for no reason, and my weight isn't really stable and seems to have no relation to my eating habits(it's a low healthy weight, it just bounces /- 5lbs alot), i'm nausious often, and i've had at least two yeast infections in the last six months.
i'm 20 years old and female.

how worried should i be? does this sound like type 1 diabetes, or am i just worrying over nothing?
answer

i just learned i have type 1 diabetes last thursday (im 12 years old). I was thirsty all the time, urinate like once an hour ( felt like every minute to me) i was weak and there are other things too. u should really go see your doctor because it sounds like you have the same thing i do. good luck and i wish u the best...( ive only known ive had this since thursday but it isnt that hard, u will eventually get used to it.i have! god bless!

btw when they want to do the test with the "pee" that means they are checking for keetones (i cant spell). u dont want keetones cause it has to do with the fat in ur body.

You just need to talk to your doctor and tell them you are worried and they will help answer the questions you need answered. The sooner you go to the doctor for the answers the more better you will feel .

Also, you can run over to your drug store and buy "Ketostix". No prescription is needed. Check you urine with the ketostix next time you go (which seems to be every hour). If it changes color - you likely have diabetes.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but to me it sounds like you might have type 1... it usually occurs in childhood and adolesense, and your age (20) isn't that far off. I'd definitely go see your doctor if I were you. Just to be safe. You sound like you know most of the symptoms, but I'm going to post all of the symptoms for type 1 that I know of, just incase you missed one.

Here are some of the symptoms of Type 1 diabetes. Some of them might apply to type 2 also, but I'm not completely sure...

*Increased thirst
*Frequent urination
*Increased appetite
*Drowsiness, Lethargy
*Sudden weight loss
*Sugar in urine
*Sudden vision changes
*Heavy, labored breathing
*Stupor, Unconsciousness
*Fruity, Sweet, or wine - like odor on breath

Hope this helps! And good luck (meaning I hope the test comes back negative)!!
answer

Could be either type of diabetes, your doctor will know which one. It does sound like you may have the symptoms. Go get checked now. The symptoms are the same for both types of diabetes....type 1 the symptoms usually appear all at once, type 2 they are more gradual
Unine test are not as reliable as blood tests
answer

Most type 1 diabetics are diagnosed in hospital in a coma!!! If you are not in hospital in coma, you probably don't have type 1!!!

Type 2 diabetes can and does hit all ages, all weights and all body types. All the hyperbola junk spouted on TV is just hype for the news media.

you have a 20% greater chance of getting diabetes if you have it in your genetic background, but that doesn't mean much as they didn't used to check for it like they do now or even consider it a disease unless the glucose level was over 300!

One report I read the other day on WebMD said up to 50% of teenagers are in the prediabetic catagory!!

One report said skinny people are 30% more likely to get type 2 diabetes as overweight ones.

5 pounds at a healthy weight is a normal thing. It is when you drop 25 for no reason at all that it becomes a concern!!

Quit worrying!! Stress causes higher glucose levels!! Worry causes stress!!! Just go see the doctor.

Also start a medical records file for yourself. large 3-ring binder, get copies of all blood work, and other tests. Put this in your binder. You can keep better track of your wellbeing this way.
